- Reused the double doors for the Route 2 gate, and added the warp for it
- Changed the Route 2 map to have the ledge on the path this irritated the fucking LIFE out of me
- Pokemon Tower takes you to the right place when going down.
- Kotora line now has Flash
- Refactored Gentlarva
- Route 2 gate now uses the double doors.
- New hidden Moon Stone where the Clefairy are in Mt. Moon
- Added a new Paradox Pokemon-themed border by Gecko557
- Shifted a ledge in Cerulean City that was off-centre in a really jarring way
- Added the Nugget glitch from FRLG because it's funny and cool
Whoa, this one's been in the making for a while now. This one has been my attempt to fix as much as I could within a little over a month. Here's what I've got for you.
- Fixed a bug in Silph Gauntlet where the trainers would not see you unless you spoke to them
- Removed the unnecessary Gawarhed and Wugtrio static encounters. In what was once Gawarhed's place is a Rare Candy.
- Implemented a working ferry system (huge thanks to Red++) that allows travelling to Faraway Island and Citrine City with the right tickets. Currently both maps use a copy of the SS Anne, which may be revised later.
- Bittybat, Magnetite and Burgela have been removed to fix a Pokedex bug where entries wouldn't display correctly if the total number wasn't a multiple of 8.
- Fixed a bug where fishing up a Wiglett and Wugtrio would play the trainer battle and Champion battle themes respectively
- Restructured the Pokedex a little. Don't worry, Lickitung's still number 108!
- All references to betamon in the disassembly have had their names updated to match the new Ogasawara ones
- Removed Blastyke as a Game Corner prize, replacing it with Squeamata.
- Garnet Cavern is now properly listed as a dungeon map
- Fixed an issue where trying to leave Bill's House after entering the garden would put you back in the garden
- Moved Silph Gauntlet's Beauty down 1 floor to make the number of trainers on each floor more consistent
- Finished Gauntlet 6F except for the trainer text (PvK please help)
- Gavillain's stats updated to match KEP 1.4 on the Showdown server. It's now a Dragon/Electric type with less Ice coverage.
- Fixed Clefable's and Wigglytuff's starting movesets from an earlier commit
- Fixed an ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE, EGREGIOUSLY FRUSTRATING BUG that caused the Pokedex's seen counter to rarely update. This is what caused this commit to be delayed for so long. No joke.
- New sprites, courtesy of Albatross, for Sylveon's back sprite, Alolan Marowak, Alolan Muk, Galarian Weezing and Magnezone!
- Fixed a bug preventing the trade for Haunter from being accessed.
Short tests showed positive results. Revert if it fucks up anything.
PureRGB enhances Gen 1 AI in various ways, fixing notorious glitches and making it not do completely stupid things. I would use shin pokered's, but it may be too difficult for unfamiliar players, and has a bunch of outdated markers I'd have to spruce up.
Relevant changes:
- Burn effect calls have been replaced with Fire Blast's effect, replicating the burn spread use-case of Fire Blast
- Teleport references removed because pureRGB uses a unique version
- Any straggler references to effects not used in pureRGB
- Mist properly referred to as we only have one move that provides stat drop immunity.
Updated the sprite gallery too!!
- All of the new Pokemon have been given their Nob Ogasawara-localised names, where applicable. Skimper, Bawligua, and Cryithan have completely new names, (Squeamata, Ministare and Iguanarch), made by me with a lot of help from Plague Von Karma!
- Squeamata and Ministare have new sprites courtesy of Albatross. Crobat and the Alolan forms of Golem, Persian, Sandslash and Raticate have also been updated.
- Sandy Shocks can no longer learn Metal Sound.
- Luxwan and Sirfetch'd can no longer learn Hyper Beam.
- A handful of Pokedex entries have been rewritten or altered slightly.
This finishes Chief's event, with all the necessary components for the post-game Mewtwo fight sorted as well. I added an event the Master Ball sets for modular monologue text, for improved immersion.
I have also fixed some bugs;
- Fixed the oft-reported walking in trees bug in the Forest tileset.
- Fixed the Oak's lab computer issue by just...removing the computer. I made the map symmetrical instead, feels a lot better to look at, at least for me. I think it was meant to have an event on it or something, but I couldn't find anything, felt like I was being gaslit.
- Hopefully fixed the issue with the border blocks going weird after saving and resetting, by making the tileset directly point to the gym one, which Oak is meant to use. I am not sure how that glitch happened for ViWalls.
- Fixed the Viridian Pre-Gym text scrolling issue.
I still cannot replicate the crash bugs that some people have been experiencing and don't see anything that could be causing it.
I also changed Trampel in Victory Road to Steelix, as mentioned by Gogocrafter.
I used Vortiene's sprite sheet generator to get ourselves one for KEP. Took a while to adapt to our interests but worked out really well. Will use this to get ourselves precise credits.
This renovates the Celadon Mansion Roof House to feature a faithful restoration of Shinjuku Jack. Notes are in the script file.
Also, LuciShrimp's Mewtwo theme is finished!
This adds three trainers to Brunswick Trail, as well as the lover NPCs Martha wanted to write dialogue for (with placeholders for now).
Most trainers are merely commenting on the strong and energetic Pokemon, which I think matches the racing theme it has going on. This can be changed if need-be.
I have also removed all the noise on the Fake Tree sprite that got added when I imported the tile. Now, it's far more convincing.
- The Zapdos in Brunswick Glade now vanish correctly, due to fixing a desync in the hide/show data
- Brunswick Glade's palette displays correctly
- Improved Citrine City's theme a little
- Changed palettes for Cryithan's line to reflect their upcoming redesign
- Updated Cryithan's sprite
- Fixed a bug where attempting to Fly on Celeste Hill caused a huge memory corruption effect. Oops.
- Fixed text issues on Route 1 and Museum 2F
- Tidied up trainer parties a little more
- Citrine City uses its own music track, being a revamped version of the unused trading music that was thought to be a town theme for several years. Could still use some work though.
- Improved Crocky's sprite a little, giving it the proper dimensions and improving the hairstyle a tiny bit
- Fixed an issue with Sylveon's Level 1 learnet
Another overdue sprite implementation. Had to slightly edit the back sprite as it was a pixel too wide, but the difference is extremely minimal. Also swapped raichu's pose as it was bad. It may need a bit of dusting off, the position may be crusty, etc.
- Moltres now functions correctly, seeing you like a normal trainer would.
- Slightly tidied up Brunswick Trail and Celeste Hill Outside's maps
- Celeste Hill Outside and Cave now play Digda01 as a music track
In the name of making Pikachu/Eevee mode more accurate to Yellow, the starter trio are being made obtainable. However, I am also improving it in some respects to make it more accurate.
In the anime, the Hidden Village is between Cerulean and Vermillion, so Yellow's implementation is inaccurate. It also pushes the Jynx trader out of the house, which is undesirable.
Thus, Melanie has been placed in the Day Care to give more reason to go there, as well as make the Day Care look more like the one from FireRed and LeafGreen. In the name of this, a PC has been added as well, allowing for easier utility around the Day Care itself.
Bulbasaur is currently allergic to hiding for some reason but we'll figure that out later.
By layering the prototype tiles without backgrounds over existing tiles, you can make them blend in more effectively. This makes the new post-game island much more seamless.
- Properly adds Brunswick Grotto, as well as Celeste Hill Outside and Celeste Hill Cave
- Citrine City received a minor redesign, putting the path to Brunswick Trail more to the west
- Added complete event for Galarian Zapdos as well as an encounterable, but unfinished Galarian Moltres, so all 3 birds can currently be caught
The warp at the moment is an absolute travesty, something on that tileset needs to change. Either that or we figure out something else.
Everything in the Grotto is done, except for making Galarian Zapdos disappear after being defeated. At least, to my knowledge...
Pokemon Tower 3F is dead until future notice - Martha said she wanted to compress the Diglett's Cave maps, though.
I did these a few days ago and forgot to push the commit lol
- Gives the Game Corner and the prize building a new palette
- Makes encounter levels a bit more consistent in the early game, as well as spreading out species a bit more evenly
- Changes Bill's Garden to be a more fitting Overworld-tileset map
- Gives Cinnabar Volcano a unique palette, being a slightly less-bright version of the RedMon palette
- A few small changes/improvements to the Rival teams
- Reduced wild encounter levels in Silph Gauntlet a little
- Adds a 100% chance for a Magmar encounter when fishing in the Cinnabar Volcano lava
- Hides more 'secret' areas off the Pokedex area listing, namely Mt. Moon Crater and Faraway Island
- Improves Jabetta's sprite a little
This adds the Mt Moon Square House, faithfully recreated from GSC. I haven't yet sorted out the important details regarding the Crater Guard and such, though.
Making the map involved making a new desk tile and making house tile $36 be considered a counter tile. Hopefully there aren't any adverse consequences but I've never seen anything of that nature.
I noticed there are a ton of Clefairy text bits, so I refactored it to be a single line farcalled from `text_7.asm`. This also involved an interesting thing with the Pokemon Fan Club where the Pikachu fan has a Clefairy, so I fixed that too.
I figured that adding the dance was a little difficult right now, so we have Clefairys walking around instead.
I haven't figured out a good place to add the ladders yet (since there should be two entrances) but we'll figure that out eventually. It's plausible that we just make the Crater the southern warp, but I like how out-of-the-way the current one is.
Oh, and I fixed the Crater warps.
Overall, functional, but not finished.
I altered the border to use RGBY sprites only. They're taken from various sources; the game corner, beta material, and so on. I directly downgraded Jigglypuff, Clefairy, Pikachu, Oddish, and Bulbasaur, which results in a really cool pre-GSC feel.
Also, fixed the Voltorb sprite. Had a palette thing left.
- Made Gym Leader levels more consistent
- Updated sprites, including a complete redo of Espeon's (based off the Gold sprite)
- Fixed an issue where Blue would have an incorrect team
- Changed Celadon Gym trainer text to accomodate for being a girl
This adds the boy/girl selection from later generations, using the pret tutorial and a spriteset from Pokemon Anniversary Red. I made some alterations, namely inserting the option later into the speech to be less clunky, and having the Nidorino become a Nidorina if you pick the feminine option.
I decided to make the third name option Seren, a common Welsh name for girls. It means "star", which is really cute! But...most people will probably say it's a Panel de Pon reference, which is cool too.
This adds a map for Cinnabar Volcano's floors in the run-up to Moltres. I used a S.S. Anne style compression technique here, having 4 floors on a decently sized map that are just far enough apart for a player to never actually see them. This maintains their suspension of disbelief while giving us way more space to work with. I want to compress a lot of RBY maps like this if push comes to shove - there's a lot of places where this is possible.
In the interests of compression, I started using the Agatha bank again, as I removed a lot of maps from there when making bank 22. There's some space for maps.
Also I made 3 more blocks for cavern which caused it to overflow the bank it was in - fixed that by swapping with PreGym, which is probably much smaller.
Cinnabar Volcano hasn't been changed yet in the interest of Martha finishing that bit up.
This adds Citrine Mart, which is battle-centric. It sells all the "strongest" items and makes Max Revives renewable.
I made a specialised tileset for Citrine Mart, combining the old and new styles to make something that feels right.
The groundwork for Brunswick Trail events has been done. Wild data, Cactus event, and Zapdos-G events are set up, plus an NPC. This also makes the Fake Tree sprite available.
I made the warp at the tunnel in Brunswick goes directly to Celeste Hill and back. Warp tile made functional.
Many bugs right now:
- Cactus doesn't disappear after battling it. Also, making this work how I want it to is hard.
- Pokemon are encountered on every tile, which is likely because it's considered to be indoors. In trying to fix this, I seemed to completely screw up the maps, so this isn't being committed. Handle this with care.
- I made a spriteset specifically for Citrine, but it doesn't seem to be working for Brunswick, likely because Brunswick is an indoor map and thus isn't just taking it.
Misc. changes:
- Moved Sandy Shocks to a 4% encounter slot in Mt. Moon Crater to be equal to Scream Tail.
- Restored the proper translation for the "rotten PRESIDENT" scientist, courtesy of Dr. Lava and Nob Ogasawara.
To-Do List for Brunswick Trail:
- Galarian Zapdos event (give hide/show data)
- Tunnel to Celeste Hill (tileset moment)
- Couple by the sea
- Fake Tree (Cactus, may need a spriteset)
- Wild data (needs doing)
- Maybe a few trainers?
This adds Pikachu, Cat, and "Small Bird" menu icons. The cat has a custom animation done by myself.
The Jigglypuff in the Pokemon Centre now uses the new sprite, nice 'n' pretty. Officer Jenny is also in Cerulean. The Pokemon from Melanie's house in Yellow have been put in Mr. Fuji's House, given the purpose of the house in RB is different. I think it ends up fitting very nicely.
Chansey has been given its proper sprite in Fuschia. Yellow didn't actually do this, as Chansey doesn't have a walk cycle, causing the stuff that exists to go unused. I wanted it, though, so I had Chansey just not walk and turn around. Oh, and it's in all the Pokemon Centres now. Yeah, that's a...lot of changed files.
Some big dubs for KEP today. This commit backports the Yellow overworld spriteset, and also adds the cat sprite for Meowth. This allows Jessie and James to use their overworld sprites in the Rocket House and serves as groundwork for backporting their other events.
There are altered Daisy and Nurse Joy sprites that may or may not warrant usage. That can be discussed.
Naturally, this also means there's a ton of overworld sprites to use elsewhere. Revamps of the "Bulbasaur house" in Cerulean and the Surfing Pikachu sprite change come to mind.
An & symbol has been backported from GSC for Jessie and James's trainer class as well.
This map is pretty much finished, save for the map sprites for Jessie, James, and the unused Cat (aka Meowth) being imported, as well as an & symbol. This adds everything else - the marts, the Rocket Trio fight, the meeting music, the tileset, the trainer class for Jessie/James, I could go on. A ton of work well-done.
A three-stage Bug line that mirrors the Caterpie and Weedle lines, being an old design for Weedle's evolutions. Pudi, Hinaazu and Betobebii have been removed, though.
Lots of things here. Citrine now has its own tileset featuring content from the prototype asset leak. This includes new grass, signs, and so on. Lots of tinkering had to be done to make it look good, but it does! Collision and everything is done, but grass needs to animate properly. I'm committing as-is because making the grass animate is actually very difficult.
Also added the Metal Coat and fixed the issues with prior evolution methods - evo items first, level-up second. It is currently unobtainable.
turns out the last time we tried removing disobedience, pokemon wouldn't attack. also reworked the texts to remove references to it, as well as some SS Anne stuff
- Regional trades now dummy out the "-A" thing etc so they look nice
- Added Celadon, Saffron, Viridian, and Vermillion regional trades
- Added Galarian Sidegrade trades to the S. S. Anne, but Perrserker and Sirfetch'd specifically don't work. I have zero clue why, as they work the same as the rest.
- Corrected grammar in the "Happy" text when you finish a trade
- Puts back Channelers to allow progress for now; currently goes to undefined places
- Tweaked two trainer parties with odd mons
- Jessie/James sprite in proper place
- Put little girl text back because it caused a problem
- One Celadon Gym cut tree removed to allow cut-less progress
- Fixed the rival picking the wrong team vs eevee
- Fixed the rival loading wrong in s.s. anne
This is a cave that connects Bill's Lighthouse and Route 10, only accessible after Surf is obtained. Contains a static Dragonite as a reference to the anime!
I changed the P image to match the font used in the prototype assets.
Also, because Yujirou has a pic all alone in that one bank, I added the other 4 beta trainer classes that never got used. They're all ready to be used, just need teams and a place to go, but I want to address trainer line-ups last code-wise.
This code has a lot of problems with solutions that me and Frrf can't seem to figure out. We've taken a lot of references from Erika's Gym but we've got many bugs after Yujirou is defeated, such as one case where you end up instantly doing the rematch fight, which is insane because there's no way this can actually happen.
What's committed is a fight that can be re-fought when it shouldn't.
This map is fully functional but has a lot of bits to iron out, as well as a need for Gym Trainers. I'm also not wholly satisfied with Yujirou's team; maybe remove Eevee?
Yes, I designed an entire tileset for this. Fear me. Bow before me. Actually, don't, this was beyond rational thought.
Current issues;
- Yujirou's sprite doesn't work properly.
- Needs Gym Trainers (hell)
- Yujirou needs an event for being beaten, the refight, and more.
Reworks the Pokedex to accommodate for the regional forms, changes a title screen graphic, and cleans up a few base stat files (will do the rest later). Also revised a few dex entries (special thanks to my girlfriend for Gyopin's!)
So some bits of this are untested, but the base starters are unaffected. I had to work a lot with the sprite limits so Oak's lab has been changed a bit.
This adds a Pikachu and Eevee "mode" to the game, allowing you to pick them as starters. When doing so, the Rival will always pick the opposite.
There are some glitches;
- Picking Charmander makes Blue erase himself from existence
- Picking from anywhere other than the front of the table may have odd results.
- Oak has to be shown in the lab at the start from now on for some reason; side effect of removing the dexes, there's definitely a fix for this.
These are from me not finishing the ball picking process - it was a little weird.
Parties based on starters have been updated but I had to cut out a lot of unused trainer slots.
Also the unused names were removed.
- Replaces the Old Rod with the Candy Sack, an item to evolve Meltan into Melmetal. Meltan and Melmetal aren't in yet.
- Improves Gym Leader and Elite Four AI by a lot. They still use items, they're just better. Fixes XSpecial use while we're at it; before, it didn't actually increase the stat...
- The Scarlet Book now takes up both shelves, one section for each Paradox Pokemon. I also moved the bookshelf so it looks nicer.
- Text in Celadon University has been reduced significantly, taking up less memory and being a bit more RBY-like. It has also been made more accurate (thanks to Daiginjo for translating my booklet!)
- The Magikarp researcher in Celadon University now gives TM Dragon Rage (no longer unused!)
- Added a guard for Mt. Moon Crater.
- Removed TrainerNamePointers, Blank Leader Name Code, and Dakutens/Hakutens using a guide published by YakiNeen.
- PP no longer uses a shitty graphic and is instead properly implemented into the font, optimising the status screen. Also displays in-battle which is kinda cool.
- Lorelei, Bruno, and Agatha now play the Gym Leader theme, not just Lance.
Still unsure how to fix Celadon University's trainers, all I know is a lot of the information should be taken from the Oak fight I did. The code is radically different and doesn't call trainer headers at all. You'll likely want to start from scratch.
The Mt. Moon Crater Guard's text is a little wonky, not sure what's up there. May have been from the way I accessed Mt. Moon in testing. Anyway, if you want to mess around feel free.
All of the Ubers have sprites now (goodbye Lion Pory2!), fixed a small bug I made on Route 19 when resizing Cinnabar, and some minor text updates/fixes.
Adding the maps for Silph's Gauntlet, along with Albatross's Galarian Bird sprites. Also fixing Blottle's typing, and temporarily replacing the effects of the recover moves.
